Give children the gift of a healthy and happy life

Good nutrition can reduce malnutrition, stunting and wasting

Goal: $16000 for 300 beneficiaries; $50 per mother-child

Why?

In urban slums like Trilokpuri in Delhi, data shows that 32% children below 5 years are stunted, 22% underweight and 11% wasted.

The first 1000 days of a child, starting during pregnancy are critical for brain and physical development. These indicators can be improved with the focused interventions and behavioral changes. The services offered are estimated to reduce stunting by at least 4% and increase potential earnings by at least 7%.

Goal:

Raise $16000 to setup a safe, fun, and inspiring environment called MindUp in Trilokpuri in partnership with The Heights and Minds Foundation(HMF) based in Netherlands with the objective of:

1. Monitoring and measuring growth of babies using a digital app

2. Offering counseling services to parents

3. Providing training and awareness to parents through digital content like videos, games etc

4. Education about nutrition through fun activities, demonstrations to engage women

5.Space for children to play games

How will your donation help us?

Thanks to donations received so far, we have been able to rent a new space. We now need funds for implementing the project:

1. Recruiting community members as MindUp Managers (MUMs) to run the operations

2. Provide training to MUMs by HMF experts on growth, development, and nutrition

3. Acquire digital tools such as training videos and HMF’s Digital Highway Platform for monitoring the growth and health of babies.

Your donation will help children have a healthy, happy and productive life!

Education

Every child deserves a good education. Kadam Learning Center was established in 2016 after

conducting a survey and focus groups in Ambedkar Camp, a jhuggi(slum) in Trilokpuri for children in
class 5-12. Most of the children are first generation learners. Although most go to a public school, their
level of learning is much below the grade they are in.

Key features of this program are:

  • 4 batches of 15-20 students Monday-Friday.
  • Tutoring with focus on improving Maths and reading skills.
  • Assistance with homework and exam preparations.
  • Inculcate critical thinking, interest in learning through storytelling and discussions.
  • Creative activities.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Outdoor activities

– $150 – After-school and creative learning for 10 kids/month
$1800 – After-school and creative learning for 1 kid/year

Women and Child Center

The first 1000 days of a child are critical for its mental and physical development. We are planning to partner with Heights and Minds, a non-profit organization based in Netherlands to setup a center for mothers and babies to ensure every child reaches its full potential by monitoring their growth in the first 1000 days and educating and training mothers.

The key highlights are:

  • Register and monitor height and weight of a child at least 10 times in the first 1,000 days using HMF’s Service Highway Digital Platform.
  • Setup a café run by youth with healthy food options
  • Raise awareness among parents about their child’s growth, measuring growth
  • Provide counselling focusing on behavior change in feeding practices and local solutions to provide a diverse adequate diet within the family’s means
  • Educate mothers about healthy eating for themselves and the entire family as well as parenting and early stimulation skills in a fun way using digital materials, videos, and games and encourage active participation and sharing amongst peers
  • Educate mothers and adolescent girls about anaemia, its impact and good diet
  • Income generating activities for long term sustainability, such as craft, producing and growing foods and selling healthy meals.

Skill Development Center

Over the years we realized many of these first generation learners coming from poor and marginalized communities are unaware of different colleges, technical courses or career options. They lack confidence and no one to guide them. They are unable to take advantage of the different opportunities available. To address this gap we plan to establish a Skill Development Center that provides the following training:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Web design and video making
  • Communication skills with a focus on  Spoken English
  • Academic and career counseling
  • Workshops on topics such as gender equality, responsible citizenship, sustainability, climate change, mental health

$10000 –  Run center for 1 yr
